Need some opinions on some baby names...?

A few weeks ago I read an article that said people that had traditional names ie: Mary, Emily, Thomas, Benjamin etc...had a better chance of getting a call back for an interview for jobs. People that had more "Black" sounding names, did not get as many call backs. This is sad. I am going through the process of picking a name for my daughter, and the few names my husband and I agree on, some have said are 'Black sounding". We live in an area where there are a lot of african american people, and we are just fine with it, infact her brother is mixed =) I just wanted to know if these names sound like they are more black. I don't want her feeling weird when she is older..Here they are: Shayla, Soraya, Braylin, and Brinley. Please let me know your thoughts.

Need some opinions on some baby names...?
Sadly, I do agree that "black names" don't sound as "successful" as "white names." I'm not racist in any way, shape, or form - I have friends of all races and religions - but the culture we live in is generally going to hire Tim, not Tyrone. With that put out there, here are my thoughts...

Shayla - This sounds sweet to me! Maybe because I'm Jewish, and "shayna" means pretty in Yiddish? Others might view this as a low-class name, but I think it's pretty!

Soraya - It sounds exotic! I wouldn't use this it was actually an ethnic name and I lived in a place where that language is spoken.

Braylin - I don't see this as a "black name" but it doesn't appeal to me at all.

Brinley - Again, not a "black name", but I don't like it.

I'd go with Shayla - so pretty! For nicknames, you could use Shay, or my favorite, Ayla.
Reply:Those names don't sound "black." They are just real different. The sad truth is that people respond better to traditional names because they have a reference for them. I know that parents want to give their children unique names with unique pronounciations and unique spellings, but all they do really is saddle the kid with a weird name that no one can pronounce and no one can spell. When choosing a name, think about what's best for the child, not what's fun and chic for the parents.
Reply:sorry i hate all those names, the best would be Shayla though.

Ive also heard that. but i also read that teachers label kids by their names also, like a survey taken and most teachers said that girls with the names Rachael, Kaylee, Britney (those sort of names) were mainly trouble making girls in class. so my point is there are loads of these articles around, ignore them, its just something to write about, doesn't matter if they have nothing to back it up they just want to shock people etc...
Reply:Have you ever heard of these names before? Shayla sounds black to me. Soraya sounds made up as does Braylin. If her name was Brinley people would ask if your childs name was Britney and you'd always be correcting them. Of these I'd go with Shayla and call her Shay, which I really like. Don't worry aout what others think -- you're the one who gets to choose.
Reply:I also picked Shayla for our girls name but my hubby wasnt fond of it...doesnt sound "black" and I don't think any of the other names you picked do either. I like Brinley, it's different and sounds very girly.
Reply:I love Shayla...

Not really black sounding...

It shouldn't matter if they were...

Things change a little more each day. They say soon... blacks and bi-racial will out number whites. So by the time shes looking for a job I doubt it will matter.
Reply:Shayla is the best out of all of them. But I like the spelling Shaela or Shaila. I don't like the Y in Shayla, looks weird. . . no offense!

Reply:If you don't care about "black-suonding" names then why should it matter?/

I really like Braylin Soraya

that is my dfavorite i love the name Braylin
Reply:I don't think the names you picked are "black" sounding... but they sound trendy to me. I think Shayla is a really pretty name....
Reply:I wouldn't define those as "black-sounding," but they have kind of a low rent ring to them.
Reply:I like Shayla a lot. I think its a royal name.
Reply:Shayla ain't Black. It's sort of like a White princess name. Shayla Taylor or Skye
Reply:I like Shayla a lot
Reply:kinda..............yeah
Reply:I like Brinley! its very unique...in a good way! i love it!
