Changing the spelling of traditional baby names?

It's so stupid. It makes me cringe... are you trying to be creative? Because it's not... it's just really strange looking.

Kady, Lanndyn, Izabellah, Kodee...

Just spell it the right way. It's like a competition to see who can spell the same name with the most letters in it. Why can't you just make your childs life simple?

Stupid, dumb high school girls trying to get pregnant... psht. And for you older women following this trend? When someone see's your kids name spelled like that, I will tell you what are thinking... she must have been really young when she named him/her.

Changing the spelling of traditional baby names?
Ah! I hate this just as much as you do. It's sooo annoying, repulsive almost. It changes beautiful names into trashy ones. Spelling wonderful traditional names "trendy" and "unusual" is not cool! It almost ruins the name, and...IT LOOKS IDIOTIC!

Other ones I've seen/heard are:

Maddysin

Sharlet

Kaylee/Rylee/Mylee/Kylee/Jaimee/Aimee (i think the double e's look trashy and juvenile)

Kaydi --- it's KATIE, people.
Reply:I think most people do it to be creative/unique. I don't really get that since Izzybella/Isabella/Izabella/Isabelah are all pronounced the same way, so it's still the same name. If people want unique, they should choose a unique name, not bastardize nice traditional names by giving them khree8tyv spellings.
Reply:Well, i don't care how the name is spelt, how is it any of my business?

My daughters name is Mikayla, and yes that is how we chose to spell it. Why? Mik - is after her father Mike, KAY is after her grandmother Kay, and LA is after her granddad LArry.

Sorry you seem to have issues with this, but i think there are more important issues to worry about then the spelling of names.
Reply:Parents want their children to be set apart and looked at as unique, but kids just want to fit in. Plus, who wants to say their name is Izabellah and then have to spell it every time? And don't forget, Kaylee and Kodee will grow up to be adults, then they are saddled with a "cute" name.

The one I just saw that made me cringe was "Kayte"...seriously? You can't just name her Kate or Katie?
Reply:Do you enjoy acting like a pompous prick?

As long as the name can be sounded properly then it's okay. It's only when names like Lindsey are spelled like Lenn'zeey that I really worry.

Besides parents have the right to name their kids whatever they wish.
Reply:Do you have children?? A lot of new mothers are enjoying a new and unique experience and want it to stay that way! when you were in school did you ever have class with 3 John(s)? 3 Michelle(s)? I did. i was 22 when I had my daughter KaySea and she is 11 now and loves her name! To each their own.
Reply:Classic or traditional spelling is best. Sometimes making it a bit different for ethnic reasons is fine with me - e.g. Sofia for Sophia
Reply:I think some of it looks cool. i actually like it its unique and cute
Reply:I think some of it looks cool.
Reply:everyone has their own opinion and this sentence below doesn't make sense

"I will tell you what are thinking"
Reply:Where is the question. Is this the church of names or something......?
Reply:i know a girl that is called keighley instead of kayley.

i think its quite cool

:)
Reply:i know, hu?

i hate on how those names were spelled!
Reply:well my daughter is Laila as opposed to Leila Layla Lehla etc..

I thought it would be more simple??
Reply:As a mother of 6 children, I can tell you that a parents desire to be unique either in the spelling or the pronouncing of their child's name is not a "young woman" trend, even though it may appear as such to you. Every mother and father want their child to be seen as unique and set apart. It isn't neccessarily for the approval of anyone else. I do feel that if you have such an annoyance with this, perhaps you should look inwardly, as you certainly have a choice when it comes to your own children. My advice to you, thus, my answer to your "question". If it bothers you, don't do it, but don't judge people who choose too. We have so few choices in the world, I think naming your own child is a special and unique gift that cannot be replicated.
Reply:Who are you to judge someone by how they spell their child's name? In my opinion, you sound like a very immature and simple-minded individual. You say it sounds the same so keep the spelling the same, and I, as well as a lot of other people, say it sounds the same so change the spelling! It does not mean it's a teenager's child and it does not mean they're dumb. If parents want to spell their kids names different, then its not your job to tell them how you feel about it.

I've seen a lot of "questions" like this in the past few days. You are stereotyping a lot of people you don't even know which is insulting to more than just myself. I do not have any kids or any family members with names spelled unique, but I do find it insulting when someone stereotypes thousands of people based on what they name their children.

You say that that child will have a hard life because of their name, but its people like YOU that make that happen.

Simply, its not your job to tell other people what you think about their child's name and it is DEFINITELY not your job to stereotype these people.
